Steve McRae

Steven was born in Sydney. He trained with Hilary Kaplan and then at The Royal Ballet School (2003-4). Under Kaplan's coaching, he received the RAD Solo Seal Award and won the Adeline Genée Gold medal, 2002, and the Prix de Lausanne, 2003. He joined The Royal Ballet in 2004, was promoted to Soloist in 2006, First Soloist in 2008 and Principal in 2009.

Since joining The Royal Ballet his roles have included the Side Couple in Frederick Ashton's Symphonic Variations, Pas de trois in Les Rendezvous, the Cat in Will Tuckett's Mr Bear-Squash-You-All-Flat, Act I Pas de trois and Neopolitan in Anthony Dowell's production of Swan Lake, Gurn in Johan Kobborg's production of August Bournonville's La Sylphide, Napoli Divertissements, the Beggar Chief in MacMillan's Manon, Bratfisch in Mayerling, Christopher Wheeldon's Polyphonia, Jirí Kylián's Sinfonietta, Magdaveya in Natalia Makarova's production of La Bayadère, Romeo in Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet, the Blue Boy in Les Patineurs and Squirrel Nutkin in Tales of Beatrix Potter.

He has also created roles in Christopher Bruce's Three Songs - Two Voices (2005), Alastair Marriott's Tanglewood (2005) and the Younger Brother in Children of Adam, the Spirit of Fire in Christopher Wheeldon's Fire as part of Homage to The Queen and Wayne McGregor's Chroma.
